Race Results

  • 1992: In its inaugural event at Mid-Ohio, the Capri ran as high as second, but finished fourth, due to overheating. The next race that year was at Watkins Glen International (WGI), where the team won its first event.

  • 1993: A DNF (driveshaft failure and accident) at Elkhart Lake.

  • 1995: Another hard-earned first place occurred at Roebling Road. A DNS (carburetor problems) took place at Mid-Ohio in the same year. The next event was at WGI, where Pterodactyl Racing took another first place.

  • 1997: 4th at Summit Point.

  • 1998: Pterodactyl Racing earned a 3rd at Mid-Ohio and a 2nd at the Glen.

  • 1999: 3rd at the Glen.

  • 2000: The lure of WGI netted a pole position (by .01 second) and another 2nd, due to a failing distributor.

  • 2001: This year was particularly good, with a 1st place at Virginia International Raceway (VIR), followed by a pole position (by .6 second), another 1st place at VIR's Historic Gold Cup races and a 3rd place finish at WGI.

  • 2002: On the team's return to VIR in June, 2002 the team overcame some difficulties and the Capri finished 1st in class (British Challenge), and 4th in class (Trans-Am). At the September WGI race Pterodactyl Racing came through with a 3rd in class, out of 15.

  • 2003: Anticipating a tough race at Watkins Glen in September, 2003, Pterodactyl Racing came in a hard-earned third place, with scant seconds separating the first five finishers. At VIR in October, the Capri came in sixth, ailing from a tired engine and a jammed transmission.

  • 2004: 3rd at VIR, season finale for SVRA.

  • 2005: Another excellent season for Pterodactyl Racing -- 3rd at the Glen in nasty weather; pole position at VIR by nearly 2 seconds, followed by 1st place and a margin of victory of 15 seconds.

  • 2006: Returning to Summit Point after a long absence, the Pterodactyl Racing Capri qualified 3rd behind a Porsche 911S and a 914-6 in an usual "2 litre classification". Mechanical problems (radiator and upper end) necessitated a DNS. Later at VIR, the Capri qualified 2nd and finished 2nd behind an Alfa GTV with GTA components.

  • 2007: A very warm June at VIR netted 4th place out of nearly 20 starters. This was followed by a well-earned 1st place at Elkhart Lake (Road America) after an absence of 15 years. This 4 mile historic track offers plenty of challenges and required the team to travel nearly 2000 miles round trip.
